GOJI BERRY (LYCIUM BARBARUM) an amazing skin super food provides nutritious color.

Cold-Pressed oil refers to the extraction process of crushing the seed or nut and forcing out the oil.
Cold pressed protects and preserves the nutrients, where with heat the chemical structure is altered and we lose out on the many benefits.

A particle of matter that is between 1 and 100 nanometers (nm) in diameter.
We avoid nanoparticles enter the body by inhalation, injection into the bloodstream, and passage through the skin. They also have the potential to penetrate the blood–brain barrier due to their small size. Materials which by themselves are not very harmful could be toxic if they are inhaled in the form of nanoparticles. The effects of inhaled nanoparticles in the body may include lung inflammation and heart problems.

Comes from a plantation that follows stringent sustainability criteria related to social, environmental and economic best practices.
Sustainable Palm attempts to mitigate the following:
-clear cutting land to plant more palm trees
-allowing fires to burn where the clear cutting has happened
-conflicts with indigenous communities living on company concessions
-worker exploitation and labor abuses

A product that is not harmful to humans. The level of toxicity always depends on the dose and on the individual; for example, a glass of water is safe, a tidal wave is not. In addition, while a healthy body can easily process and eliminate different chemicals/toxins from their bodies, many health conditions may impede this natural ability, resulting in toxic buildup. This can potentially further exacerbate the effect of the toxin on the body. Fragrance in cosmetics is sometimes used as a loophole to hide toxic ingredients.
We believe toxicity is dose dependent, therefore we choose ingredients with low toxicity concern when possible to reduce overall burden on the body and the environment.

Starts from a plant source but includes a synthetic component from petroleum.

Starts from a petrochemical (petroleum) source. Note some synthetic ingredients can come from "natural sources." The difference is that one is derived from sustainable resource (i.e. plants) and the other is not (i.e. petroleum).
Products have to perform, last, and not grow bacteria (another form of safety). At times this requires the use of synthetic ingredients—for example, the food-based preservatives we use. In addition, some ingredients occur in nature but aren't readily available in a commercial way.

Cannot use genetically modified organisms and have been grown, raised, harvested, manufactured and preserved without chemical herbicides, pesticides, fungicides or antibiotics.
Choosing organic helps reduce reliance on chemical pesticides and fungicides herbicides; promotes healthier air, soil, water, eco systems; and supports cleaner land stewardship practices.

Contains ingredients from plants and processed chemically (i.e. ethoxylation), changing the molecular structure. These ingredients are generally available in a form that is allowed in certified organic products.
We choose plants over petroleum reducing our dependence on fossil fuel, a non-renewable resource, while at the same time supporting global ecosystems.

Contains ingredients from plants, processed minimally in a physical manner (i.e. fermenting, steam distillation, cold-pressing) as opposed to chemical processing. These ingredients are typically available certified organic*.

Some Intelligent Nutrients® products are fragrance-free. Our products do not contain any artificial fragrance, only 100% certified organic essential oil aroma/flavors.

Sometimes they can be toxic and actually age skin in the long run by over thinning, stressing and over drying. In addition Retin A often contain warnings such as:
It is not known whether Retin-A will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication.
It is not known whether Retin-A topical passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

This is an active product and you may experience redness or tingling. We recommend that you conduct a patch test and build up to twice daily application to maximize results.
Controlled dosage dropper makes application easy. Apply 1 dropper of serum to the face and neck post cleansing/tonic. Twist. Click. Lock.

We recommend you stop using your other retinol-based products prior to using the Time Traveler Serum. Consult with your dermatologist about using the serum in conjunction with any prescription skin products in your current regimen.

No, it does not contain Omega-3s. Consult a doctor to determine which supplements you should be taking.

The Time Traveler Serum contains plant-based ingredients that provide Retinol like benefits to skin.

Retinol is an antioxidant and an important cell-communicating ingredient. When retinol absorbs into skin, it can actually “tell” living skin cells to make healthier, younger cells and to enhance the production of new skin cells. Retinol does its work by stimulating cellular turnover from the deeper layers up—not in the uppermost layers. Those uppermost layers are where AHA or BHA steps in to help skin shed unhealthy, dead, built-up skin cells.
Retinol is a natural derivative of vitamin A and can be found naturally in the body. Retinol is found in many products that don’t require a prescription. Retinols are generally gentler than Retin A. Retin A is not a natural form of vitamin A and is created synthetically.

Glycerin is a humectant, which is a substance that promotes the retention of moisture. There is so much water in the atmosphere that studies have shown that the humectant attracts the moisture into the skin and keeps the skin moisturized and nourished. Glycerin is non toxic so it can be used for skin, face and babies. Glycerin has been shown to provide a protective barrier, help the skin cells mature properly and aid in bruised or swollen skin. Organic glycerin is best because you can be assured that the starting material to make it is an organic oil like palm oil.

Alcohol used in personal care products must be denatured. Intelligent Nutrients® uses Certified Organic Bergamot Essential Oil to denature alcohol.

Sodium Benzoate [CAS # 532-32-1] = This is a preservative commonly used in foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. It scores a 3 on skin deep. It is also designated as generally regarded as safe (GRAS) by the FDA. There can be an issue when Sodium Benzoate combines with Ascorbic Acid creating a form of benzene, a known carcinogen. That said, this scenario is typically occurs in diet sodas not cosmetic products. In foods, fats and sugars hinder the formation of benzene and thus is considered safe and usable in foods by FDA.

These are preservatives used most often in food and used in our Skincare and Hair Care products as well, They are allowed by USDA and the EU food regulations and in cosmetics. We use them as they generally rank lower in toxicity than conventional preservatives. The rank a 3 on toxicity in the skin-deep database. They are free from any byproducts or contaminants known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity as listed under Prop 65 State Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act.

We use Sodium Benzoit, Potassium Hydroxide. We choose these preservatives because they generally rank lower in toxicity than conventional preservatives. The rank a 3 on toxicity in the skin-deep database. They are free from any byproducts or contaminants known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity as listed under Prop 65 State Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act.

Yes, while toxicity is relative to dosage, if we use a synthetic material we strive for a lower toxicity range to reduce the chemical burden on our bodies and the planet.

Yes, IN believes in efficacy and in order for some products to perform synthetic materials may be required. If a synthetic material is required. We strive for a minimum of 80% natural/plant-based content for every formula.

We require our raw material supplier to provide documentation that the palm is from a sustainably source.

Benzyl Benzoate [CAS # 120-51-4] = This is a fragrance allergen found naturally in the essential oil blends and is called out on pack per EU regulations. We do not purchase or add Benzyl Benzoate to the product directly. It's just naturally found in the essential oils.

No, however, in foods there can be an issue when Sodium Benzoate combines with Ascorbic Acid creating a form of benzene, a known carcinogen. That said, this scenario is typically occurs in diet sodas and foods, not cosmetics. In foods, fats and sugars hinder the formation of benzene and thus is considered safe and usable in foods by FDA.

Zinc Sulfate [CAS # 7446-19-7 / 7733-02-0 / 7746-20-0] = This is an inorganic salt. It's an Antimicrobial. This is a component of our Algae. It is not in the family of sulfates that are detergents which IN does not use. Sometimes INCI (regulatory) names of ingredients can be confusing to a consumer who does not understand the chemistry.

It scores a 6 on skin deep, because they are not considering that it may be contained naturally within an ingredient in the formulation. Skin Deep does not consider additional text on pack and they consider the 26 fragrance allergens that we must put on pack as added ingredients-even though that is not the case.

We really appreciate and respect the need to reduce the use of plastic consumption and wanting to do well for the environment. Sadly, we do not have a refillable program at this time. It is something that we looked into but found it to be difficult to maintain/control and there is a legal aspect that is often not adhered to in refill packaging. Our products must be tested for stability and safety in the final container and meet our quality standard. We are always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint with our products and packaging and hopefully one day we can create a plastic-free option.

The material (paper, plastic, metal, etc.) has been out on the market, used by a consumer, sent to a recycling facility and then processed to become a product for a consumer again. Ultimately, diverting material from the landfill and utilizing in the production of other commodities.
-Reduces the amount of plastics going to landfills
-Reduces microplastics making their way into oceans, seas and waterways
-Reduces carbon footprint (often requiring less, water, energy, etc.)
-Eliminates the need to use fossil fuels as a raw material, i.e. producing 100% post-consumer PET is 60% lower than manufacturing virgin PET – and this includes the energy required to collect, recycle, and remanufacture the plastics.

Check with your local recycling service. In general, glass can be separated from pumps/sprayers and put into glass recycling containers. Airless packaging (Megapumps) can be put into mixed plastic recycling systems. Cartons are recyclable in mixed paper recycling systems.

Longevity, stability, low shipping weight at max capacity, making sure the product comes out of the bottle—sometimes plastic is the best way to minimize the overall impact. We choose post-consumer recycled plastic whenever possible. Oure hair care bottles are 90-100% PCR, our tubes are minimum 50% PCR.

Aveda and IN were founded by the same family. Aveda was sold to Estee Lauder in 1999. Following a 10-year non-compete the same Rechelbacher family created IN in 2008.

Product is required to be filled to the level that meets the label claim on the packaging. For efficiencies the same package may be used for different products that have different weights and thus are filled to the appropriate weight listed on the package.

When a purchase is made, an authorization charge is placed on credit/debit cards that temporarily holds funds on an account. This is not actually a charge on your card. Once the order has been shipped, this authorization becomes an approval and charges your account.

We do not add gluten or gluten containing ingredients to our products, however the individual ingredients may come from a manufacture that does process products that do contain gluten. Because we don’t add gluten directly, we claim gluten-free, but the finished goods have not been tested for gluten.

We choose recycled (post-consume recycled) packaging materials whenever possible versus virgin to reduce our environmental footprint. Our shampoo/conditioner bottles are 90-100% PCR. Oure cartons, shippers and boxes are 100% PCR. Our tubes are a minimum of 50% PCR. By the year 2021 we will be free of all virgin plastic containers.

No, we do not include the pricing on the Invoice receipt or inside the box containing the order. All billing information is communicated via email.

Products that are safe for our body and the planet; made with ethically sourced ingredients; and made with the health of our bodies and the environment in mind.
We choose ingredients with lower toxicity concern when possible to reduce overall burden on the body and the environment. We prioritize biodegradable raw materials. We're 100% transparent in labeling and listing every ingredient on our packaging (even our trade-secret aromatic essential oil blends).

Green washing is a form of marketing spin where 'green' is deceptively used to persuade people to believe that something is 'greener' than it actually is. Making claims that are not substantiated via the guidelines as established by the Federal Trade Commission Green Guide.

Quality of not being harmful to the environment or depleting natural resources, and thereby supporting long-term ecological balance.
Choosing ingredient or packaging components that are sustainable, either renewable or recyclable ensures long-term availability of resources.
-We choose plants as most are renewable. Petroleum is non-renewable with limited and finite availability.
-Recycling a material (i.e. post-consumer recycled plastic) extends the availability of that finite resource.

Products developed with minimal present and future environmental impact.
We choose plants over petroleum; cruelty-free, eco-friendly and sustainably sourced ingredients, always. We choose sustainable packaging to reduce our footprint on human, health and planet.

Growing, harvesting and processing of palm oil has led to clear-cutting and burning massive areas of forest to plant more palm trees to meet demand. You'd be hard pressed to go 24 hours without consuming something containing palm oil—it’s used in so many products, and that’s the problem. Most palm oil harvesting is contributing to climate change, putting wildlife populations at risk by destroying their habitats, creating conflicts with indigenous communities living on company concessions, as well as worker exploitation and labor abuses.
I-N is committed to using sustainable palm only in our products in cooperation with organizations promoting sustainable palm attempt to mitigate these issues, such as the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil or RSPO, which promotes the growth and use of sustainable oil palm products, helps push through credible global standards, and offers certifications.

We do not have any products formulated specifically for infants or children. All of our products contain organic essential oils which possibly could be too aromatic or too active for young skin and hair. We list all of our ingredients on our website and packaging. If you have any concerns about specific ingredients or would like to bring the ingredient list to your pediatrician for approval, that information is easily available.

Because we are such a small company, we do not offer samples at this time. If you decide to purchase and are unhappy with the results for any reason, we offer a 30-day money back guarantee.

Regrettably, we do not offer hair color at this time. While there is no "safe" aniline hair color on the market, we are constantly looking for cleaner options. After researching on what's available now, Schwarzkopf Essensity and Mastey Haircolor are the best options.

SPF is recommended as part of your daily skin care regimen no matter what other products you are using. Intelligent Nutrients does not currently offer a sunscreen due to the limited performance delivered by more naturally based titanium and zinc based FDA allowed ingredients and preference not to use the chemically based ingredients. We recommend a sunscreen that is a fit with your personal ingredient and performance philosophy.

Intelligent Nutrients® has formulated all of its cosmetic products to include Intellimune® Antioxidant Super Seed Oil Complex. If you are looking for potent topical antioxidants, we recommend Intelligent Nutrients® Renewing Oil Serum and/or our Body & Hair Elixirs and Total Body Elixirs

Drizzle Intellimune® Antioxidant Super Seed Oil Complex on top of a salad or mix it with a favorite juice to mitigate some of the taste.
